The Joel Hill Sawmill slumbers now until the crew will reawaken it next spring. The popular attraction is too quiet in the fall and winter – the sign, not yet removed and stored, bumps softly against the building in the wind. The water in the pond deepens as the autumn rains arrive on schedule to refill it.

Civil War Encampment Reenactment |
|
Monday, 01 October 2012 16:00 |
|
The 143rd New York Volunteer Infantry encamped on the lawn of the Calder House Museum Saturday September 29th. The group appeared in the mid-morning hours and within minutes set up tents, displays and were warming their hands and brewing coffee over the firepit they had just dug. They performed drills with the able assistance of talented drummer boy, 10-year-old Brett Dirie. The shots from their muskets echoed out over the valley as they marched several times during the afternoon to the beat of the drum. They are always looking for volunteers to join and will help you with all aspects of becoming a soldier, including assistance obtaining an outfit and drill instructions.

The Society has an immediate need for volunteers in very different but equally important areas. Can you help?
Technical Facility Maintenance Liaison, (Reporting to the Office Manager)
Introduction: Recently the Society made expensive facility improvements (specifically our elevator and generator) which has increased the need to more fully formalize all of our maintenance and service policies and procedures. We must protect our investment and also maintain compliance with regulatory inspection requirements. The Board of Directors is seeking an individual who will coordinate and monitor the various elements necessary to accomplish this task.

Art Flynn’s modest bio only begins to give you a portrait of this generous gentleman. We are quite tardy in presenting Art to you, as his present two-year term on the EHS Board of Directors is nearly finished, but nevertheless, we are lucky to have had his unselfish service and feel confident that he will always be part of EHS. In Art’s own words

After his discharge he was employed by CE Mills Chevrolet and currently is employed by Roche’s Garage, Callicoon, as the trucks parts manager for more than 25 years.
He is married to the former Sandra Hermann from Callicoon and they have lived in Lookout for the past 35 years. They were high school sweethearts and were married in 1968. They have a daughter and a son and 6 grandchildren.
